Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2009
Crimson 2009 is characterised by dark cherry fruit and earthy complexity; the product of a warm vintage that delivered a brooding and velvety spread of tannins from both the skins and the ripe seeds. There are savoury, gamey notes as well as floral hints on the nose. Altogether both of the 2009 Pinots are more evocative of Burgundy than typical, fruit-forward New World pinots.
Sales of this well-established younger vines pinot support the work of Project Crimson, the charitable conservation trust whose mission is "To enable pohutukawa and rata to flourish again in their natural habitat as icons in the hearts and minds of all New Zealanders." Clive is fully committed to propagating and planting RATA and having this spread widely around the Wairarapa. www.projectcrimson.org.nz
