Kusuda Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
In classic Kusuda style the fruit from this 20 year old, non irrigated vineyard on the famed Martinborough Terrace was very carefully hand picked and then again hand sorted before processing. The fruit is very alive & fresh and the palate has a nice linear elegance, which perhaps is typical of Bordeaux varieties in their early phase. There is a nice mid palate roundness which bodes well for those who like to drink their wines in the fruit forward phase as well as the potential to go ahead for some years into the future for cellaring.
UPDATE JANUARY 2011:
Merlot Cabernet 2008 is drinking beautifully with the palate deepening in flavour sine last tried by the Martinborough Wine Centre. Definitely “Old World” (Bordeaux) in the style it has been crafted; specifically to deliver complexity and evolve over time. Presently exhibiting elegant fruit expression, harmonious tannin and gentle oak nuances combining to offer a great wine with potential for up to 10 years positive evolution when cellared well.
