Redbank Estate 'James' Viognier 2008

Once in a while it is nice to go off the beaten track. Leave the great Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc's and Pinot Gris behind. Give Chardonnay a nudge to move over..and try something different. This small producer in Te Muna Road has given us a white wine to cherish. 

This vintage has a viscosity that is akin to a dessert wine. Rich and smooth, yet light enough to be enjoyed as an aperitif with pre-dinner nibbles. On the palate passionfruit,apricot and,dare I say, a hint of cherry seem to blend into a satisfying, refreshing wine. The palate has a longish finish that will revive your senses from other white wines. I would recommend that this be served well chilled.
